Breaking Boundaries Seminar Series

January – March 2014

The Breaking Boundaries seminar series brought together researchers, policy makers and practitioners to discuss the notion that information communication technologies can be used to break down boundaries to learning and participation in society.

Funded by the ESRC and coordinated by research students at the Department of Education and the Oxford Internet Institute, Breaking Boundaries provided an interdisciplinary forum to engage with important contemporary themes in three linked seminars:

Digital communities

This seminar addressed the role of online communities and social networks in promoting participation in political, social and educational interest groups and community perspectives on digital inclusion.  It focused on the use of ICTs for increasing access to educational opportunities for people who have been traditionally excluded from them, paying particular attention to the movement around articulated around the so-called Open Educational Resources (OER) and Massive Online Open Courses (MOOCs).

Broadening access
